The Society wins the First prize in the Best Dressed Window competition on the day of switching on the Bromyard Town Lights
Saturday 24th November as dusk fell saw the square in Bromyard thronged with children and their parents, other family members and lots of visitors enjoying the Christmas atmosphere with Father Christmas in his Grotto, Roundabout, Hot dog stall and the Bromyard Windband Band playing Christmas music and Carols. Members of the Society gathered 30 minutes before the switching on of the lights to add their voices to the happy music singing carols. The winners of the competition for the best dressed shop windows were announced and the Society's window at the Old Jolly Rogers Lighthouse shop gained First Prize!
The Window was prepared by Irene Green ably assisted by our Chairman Jan Stevenson, it depicted the choir in Black & Gold anniversary year dress singing the carol 'Deck the Halls with boughs of Holly'
The appointment of our new Principal conductor Sir Richard Mynors
Following the Anniversary Concert in May a meeting of the choir was held and Sir Richard unanimously voted in as Principal Conductor and is a most welcome step forward in the activities of the Society and we look forward to a happy association and much music making with Sir Richard. He along with his wife Fiona met the committee informally at a BBQ held at the home of vice chair. Jan Stevenson. Also present were the Mayor of Bromyard, Jonathan Lester and the President of the Society Preb. Rev Walter Gould.
Sir Richard Mynors studied at The Royal College of Music and at Cambridge, and was Director of Music at Wolverhampton Grammar School, Merchant Taylors’ Crosby and Belmont Abbey School. He conducted the Hereford Christian Chorale, and is Joint Conductor of Herefordshire Youth Orchestra. Future plans include Berlioz’s ‘Te Deum’ in Symphony Hall, Birmingham, performed by 700 children from the Woodard Schools. He has always loved choral and orchestral music equally; currently he sings in the Three Choirs Festival Chorus, and plays double bass in the Chandos Orchestra. His main aim is that music should be enjoyed by both performers and audience.
