Bromyard and District Choral Society

Principal Conductor Sir Richard Mynors

The Bromyard and District Choral Society was formed in 1957 by George Nunn, whose daughter, Hilary Jones, is the present Associate Conductor. George was succeeded by David Boddington, who directed the Choir for over thirty years and still sings with the tenors. Richard Popple was appointed conductor in 1998 and retired in 2007. In May 2007 Sir Richard Mynors was appointed Principal Conductor.

The Choir comprises about 65 singers and performs a wide variety of music, sacred and secular, from the seventeenth to the twentieth century. In the UK, they have sung in Bromyard, Ledbury, Tenbury and village churches. Further afield, during the last six years they have visited Normandy, Holland and Finland, enjoying exchanges with choirs from those countries.

The Choir engages professional soloists and accompanists for its concerts. Andrea Calladine, singing tutor at Birmingham Conservatoire and visiting tutor in singing at Cheltenham Ladies College, gives occasional vocal workshops.

New singing members are always welcome. There are no auditions but the ability to sing in tune is essential and some experience of music-reading is helpful. Rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings in term time from 7.30 to 9.30 in the Methodist Church Hall, New Road, Bromyard.

The Choir is supported by its team of Associate Members, who pay a small subscription each year and may help in front-of-house at concerts and at social events. Associate Members receive the Choir's newsletters and are entitled to a  discount if they book two concert seats.
